Helpful Tips for Planning Your Event

Audio-visual Equipment

Audio-visual equipment should be requested at the time reservations are made. The Shriver Center has limited quantities of equipment and cannot guarantee availability if requested less than two weeks before your event. Any damage to audio-visual equipment will result in repair fees to be added to the final bill. Please refer to rental rates for non-University groups. An A/V technician is available for your event for a fee of $25 per hour.

Cancellations

Non-University groups must provide a 1-month notification when cancelling an event to avoid the assessment of the room rental fee. Student and University groups must provide a 2-week notification of cancellations to avoid the assessment of the room rental fee.

If you wish to display any signs or materials, please let our staff know in advance and we will be happy to assist you. Please check with your Event Planner for types of decorations that work best in each room. Use of tape on walls, doors, ceilings, etc. is prohibited. No open flames are permitted. If special cleaning after your event is necessary, additional charges will be assessed.

Room Information

The room fee is waived for a meeting or seminar that is sponsored by recognized student organizations and University departments. If two or more rooms are reserved for multi-day conferences by these groups, room fees apply for any rooms in which food service has not been requested. If a room is used for fundraising events or admission is charged by these groups and no food or beverages have been ordered to equal the room rate, the room fee will apply.

Multi-Purpose Rooms

The Multi-Purpose Room is ideal for conferences, weddings, banquets and special events. This room can hold up to 650 persons theatre-style with 4 drop-down video screens. Stage, dance floor and internet access are available upon request. This space may be used as a single room or separated by noise-reduction partitions. One or both partitions may be pulled into place to create alternative configurations, allowing greater flexibility. A grand piano is available with a 2-week notice to allow for scheduled tuning.

One Eight 09

Old Miami meets new Miami with the Shriver Center’s newly renovated casual restaurant. One Eight 09 is open Monday through Friday, 11:30am-2pm and Sunday 10:30am-2pm. While our dining room is available for walk-in guests and to-go orders, we accept reservations to our Private Dining Room. The Private Dining Room is ideal for small groups who want to conduct a meeting over lunch but do not require any special set-up or additional equipment. Because One Eight 09 is very popular for rehearsal dinners and small banquets, this room can be reserved for private catered functions in the evenings or on weekends.

Bystrom-Reid Room

The Bystrom-Reid Room can accommodate small banquets, meetings or conferences. This space can be divided into the Bystrom Room (named for Richard T. Bystrom, the first Director of the University Center) and the Whitelaw Reid Room (named for one of the first members of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and United States Vice President under Benjamin Harrison). A permanently mounted white board is available. Internet and telephone access are available upon request.

Anna Symmes Harrison Room

Near the Benjamin Harrison Room is the attractively appointed Anna Symmes Harrison Room, named for the wife of William Henry Harrison and grandmother of Benjamin Harrison. This room is frequently requested for small meetings, quiet meals or a buffet area for the adjacent Caroline Scott Harrison Room, a perfect get-away from everyday stress.

Caroline Scott Harrison Room

The Caroline Scott Harrison Room is named after Benjamin Harrison’s wife, who was born in Oxford, Ohio and became the first President of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Decorated with oriental carpets, Queen Anne furniture and various antiques, this southern-facing room gives the impression of an elegant 19th century living room. This room is very popular for small receptions and gatherings, especially when used with the Anna Symmes Harrison Room that is connected by double doors.

Benjamin Harrison Room

Benjamin Harrison, an 1852 Miami University graduate and 23rd President of the United States, is honored with a rich mahogany-paneled meeting room that seats 20 around a permanent boardroom table. This room is ideal for small meetings with its drop-down screen or for private dinners.

Room 241

Room 241 is located on the main floor of the Shriver Center and works very well for small private meetings or dinners. Flexible seating can accommodate theatre or conference style, depending on your needs. A permanently mounted white board is available. Internet and telephone access are available upon request.

Schiewetz Fine Arts Plaza

The Schiewetz Fine Arts Plaza, a gift of Richard Schiewetz to honor his sisters - Betty Schiewetz Cromer ’41 and Mary Eleanor Schiewetz Flory ’39, is an attractively landscaped area between the Shriver Center Patio to the north and Center for Performing Arts to the south. Complete with benches and a reflecting pool, the Plaza is a perfect setting for outdoor functions.

Goggin Ice Center - Club Lounge

The Club Lounge at Goggin Ice Center offers a unique setting for meetings and dining. Through a glass wall that overlooks the main sheet of ice, guests may have an opportunity to see a broomball game or the Miami RedHawks hockey team during practice. Reservations for use of the Club Lounge may be made at the Goggin Ice Center Administrative Office or by calling 529-9830. Catering is available through Carillon Catering by calling 529-4031.
