Job Enrichment - Phase IIJob Enrichment - Phase II
This program was designed to reward classified staff for continuing growth and development through course work. It is purposely flexible to allow for the wide diversity, interests, and knowledge levels of classified staff members within the Department of Housing, Dining, and Guest Services.
There is no limit to the number of classified staff members who can complete this program. Participation in this program will be discontinued if the staff member leaves the Department of Housing, Dining, and Guest Services, changes to a job classification outside of those eligible for this program, or work performance becomes unsatisfactory. A staff member cannot participate in any other job enrichment programs offered at the university while working in the Department of Housing, Dining & Guest Services. Job Enrichment credit may be applied to other programs if you leave the department and go to work in another department on campus covered by a separate job enrichment program. This would be reviewed by the manager of staff development in your new work area.
There is no specific period of time in which the program has to be completed. Completion of this program means the satisfactory completion of four (4) courses, in the areas listed below. Completion of the courses does not have to occur in a particular order. Staff members earn bonus payments throughout the program for successful completion of courses and required elements.
A Job Enrichment Bonus is earned in the first day of the pay week following the certification of completion of program requirements. This includes any time requirements. Upon completing the entire program, the staff member will receive a 5% increase in their hourly rate of pay. No change in pay grade or classification will occur upon completion of the program. There is no set time period in which a staff member must complete the program.
Staff participating in the program are responsible for the payment of any fees for classes taken at Miami University, Butler Tech, or anywhere else, if required. Successful course completion is defined as completing a course with at least a "C" or achieving a certificate of completion by the organization/company where courses are purchased or taken. Reimbursement will be made for any course or class fees except books and travel costs, upon successful course completion (up to $200 per course). Original receipts or credit card statements are required for reimbursements. In order to satisfy a requirement of the job enrichment program, courses must be taken after acceptance in this program and must be new, not something previously taken.
Participation in the Job Enrichment Program requires employees to be honest about their efforts and accomplishments. Dishonesty is any activity that tends to compromise the integrity of or subvert the educational process of the Job Enrichment Program. Any act of dishonesty is grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including termination. This includes, but is not limited to, furnishing false information or omitting relevant or necessary information in order to gain a benefit.
Any submission of information for bonuses or raises in the Job Enrichment Program is a representation that the employee has completed all the course/program requirements.
Employees are encouraged to take the job enrichment program as it is intended, complete the work honestly and appropriately, learn from it, and reap the rewards.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Job Enrichment Program, Phase II, current staff members must apply and meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed the initial Job Enrichment Program; Phase I
- Must have a satisfactory job performance, with ratings no lower than satisfactory or meeting standards of performance on the last two performance reports. They must have no written disciplinary action for the previous twelve (12) months, or suspensions for the previous twenty-four (24) months. Once a staff member is accepted into the program, if work performance falls below satisfactory level, it may be determined that they should not continue in the program until performance improves for twelve (12) months.
Required Elements
It will be up to the staff member to decide what course(s) to take in each area. All courses not listed in this outline must be approved in advance of registration by the Senior Administrator for Staff Development, to make sure they will fulfill a required element.
In the case of American Management Association courses, you must complete (2) credits to complete a step. It is your choice whether to take one (2)-point course (which usually includes a written portion to the final test) or two (1)-point courses in each step.
Choose 2 AMA points from each of these four
- Communication & Technical Skills
- Computer Skills/Usage
- Management & Human Relations
- Optional (any additional course in the above areas or other courses that have been approved by the Senior Administrator for Staff Development)
TPC Training Systems: Offers over 130 technical courses for those staff members who are looking to learn more about maintenance basics. These courses include a manual with all of the lessons (including self-tests and practice tests). Once you have completed the manual,
contact us to schedule a test. The test is multiple-choice (50-100 questions) and is NOT an open-book exam. If you do not pass the test the first time, you will have another chance to take the test.
Other courses may be substituted in each section with prior approval from the Senior Administrator For Staff Development. The Office of Continuing Education at Miami University, Butler Tech, and the Hamilton Job Development Center offer many courses throughout the year. You would register for the class, pay for it in advance, and be reimbursed (up to $200) upon successfully completing the course with a 70% or above score. Original receipts are required for reimbursements (cancelled check, credit card statements, etc copies will not be accepted). The class should be equivalent to a 10-week course (at least 10-12 hours).
Please
