Job Enrichment - Phase IIIJob Enrichment - Phase III
This program was designed to reward classified staff for continuing growth and development through course work. It is purposely flexible to allow for the wide diversity, interests, and knowledge levels of staff members within the Department of Housing, Dining, and Guest Services. However, it is a more focused, formalized program than either Phase I or Phase II, in which upon completion you will receive a "Certificate of Completion" from the American Management Association in your chosen area.
There is no limit to the number of classified staff members who can complete this program. Participation in this program will be discontinued if the staff member leaves the Department of Housing, Dining, and Guest Services, changes to a job classification outside of those eligible for this program (move to an unclassified position), or work performance becomes unsatisfactory. There is no specific period of time in which the program has to be completed.
A person who changes classifications while in the Job Enrichment Program (any Phase) will simply transfer their credits to their new classification. They will not start the Job Enrichment Program over again. A person can only go through each phase one time, regardless of how many times they switch classifications.
Completion of this program means the satisfactory completion of 10 CEU's (Continuing Education Units), in the courses listed on the following pages.
A Job Enrichment Bonus is earned in the first day of the pay week following the certification of completion of program requirements. This includes any time requirements. Completion of the courses does not have to occur in a particular order. If the staff member has already taken a course listed, an alternate selection or appropriate alternative must be taken. In order to satisfy a requirement of the job enrichment program, courses must be taken after acceptance in this program and must be new, not something previously taken.
Participation in the Job Enrichment Program requires employees to be honest about their efforts and accomplishments. Dishonesty is any activity that tends to compromise the integrity of or subvert the educational process of the Job Enrichment Program. Any act of dishonesty is grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including termination. This includes, but is not limited to, furnishing false information or omitting relevant or necessary information in order to gain a benefit.
Any submission of information for bonuses or raises in the Job Enrichment Program is a representation that the employee has completed all the course/program requirements.
Employees are encouraged to take the job enrichment program as it is intended, complete the work honestly and appropriately, learn from it, and reap the rewards.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Job Enrichment Program, Phase III, current staff members must apply and meet the following criteria:
- Must have completed the previous Job Enrichment Program Phase
- Have a satisfactory job performance, with ratings no lower than satisfactory or meeting standards of performance on the last two performance reports. They must have no written disciplinary action for the previous twelve (12) months, or suspensions for the previous twenty-four (24) months. Once a staff member is accepted into the program, if work performance falls below satisfactory level, it may be determined that they should not continue in the program until performance improves for twelve (12) months.
Required Elements
There are two steps to Phase III, completion of an AMA Certificate Program (outlined below) and volunteer work on a Department Committee (2 years).
It will be up to each staff member to decide which Certification Program best suits their needs.

Department/University Committee Volunteer Element
If you are currently serving on a University or Department Committee (CPAC, Staff Achievement & Involvement, Communication or Safety & Staff Development) your volunteer time will count toward Job Enrichment; Phase III. If you are not currently on a committee, when you apply to Phase III you will be assigned to a committee (request is on the application form). If that committee is full, you will be asked to join one of the other committees.
Past committee work will count toward Phase III. We do ask that you submit a copy of your committee certificate that you received after your two-year commitment had expired. If you've served on a committee in the past, we appreciate your time & effort and ask that you encourage others to join a committee. The volunteer cards for the committees are by the suggestion boxes in each location.
The time commitment for the committees is two years. However, if you finish your AMA certification course before your two-year commitment is completed your bonus will not be held up. You will receive the bonus when you complete the AMA certification. We will trust you to honor the remainder of you volunteer commitment.
Incentive Payments & Pay Increases
Completion (Cumulative) -> Incentive Payment
- 3 CEU's -> $500
- 6 CEU's -> $500
- 9 CEU's -> $500
- 10 CEU's and receipt of certificate from the American Management Association -> 7% increase in base pay (no change in title will occur)
CEU = Continuing Education Unit (awarded by the American Management Association).
You can only receive one job enrichment increase per year.
Your Phase III increase will be processed one year after your Phase II increase was processed.
The Bonus/Raise Process
A Job Enrichment Bonus is earned in the first day of the pay week following the certification of completion of program requirements. This includes any time requirements.
Depending on where we are in the payroll period, your bonus and/or raise will take anywhere from two to four weeks to appear on your check. So please be patient, and do not count on your bonus/raise until you receive a confirmation letter from the Office of Human Resources which will tell you exactly when you will receive the bonus/raise.
You can immediately start the next Job Enrichment Phase after completing this one.
